Our new class, Pilates

This month I wanted to spend a couple of paragraphs to shed some light about our newest class Pilates which recently added to our online timetable. In this blog I am going to share a little bit about what Pilates is and the benefits from doing our mat PIlates classes.

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a low impact FULL BODY strength based workout. It is not the same as other other faster paced workouts, or your traditional strength training. Pilates is a discipline that focuses on 6 key principles. Breathe, centre, precision, control, concentration, and flow. The original method that was developed by Joseph Pilates himself was focused around 34 exercises that would be repeated in the same order every time with advancements a long the way. Today Pilates has involved where trained instructors have the ability to add their own spin on it making it more contemporary, however keeping the class in a format that stays close to the principles as that is what makes Pilates different. Without breath, control and concentration for example you simply will not move with the same precision and therefore cannot focus on strengthening every little muscle in your body whilst also finding stability. There’s a fine line and overstepping it would take the workout in a different direction all together. PIlates focuses on strengthening and toning your whole body not just your core, as well as bringing in elements of flexibility.

What are the benefits of Terminator Fitness PIlates?

As I mentioned above, Pilates is not just about strengthening your core. Our Pilates focus on building strength and stability foundations as well as improving muscle tone, flexibility and of course improve your core function as well. The idea of our Pilates is to improve your everyday life functionality, assist with injury prevention as well as give you a stronger base to perform all of your other workouts and exercise more effectively. These sessions act as a supplementary workout rather than a replacement. They are also a great workout for anyone who is looking to get started on their fitness journey but in a low impact way. You may not be out of breath necessarily during or after the work, but you will certainly feel the workout and understand the benefits better once you have participated!
