Benefits of Yoga

Have you ever tried a yoga class? or Have you ever thought I wonder how yoga can help me and my training?

These are some of the questions I ask my clients when they want to discuss yoga with me.

The number one reason I added yoga to the timetable last year was to give my current members more balance. The balance that yoga provides is useful for more than one aspect of our lives too, and often people aren’t aware why it’s so important to find that so called balance.

Yoga can benefit almost everyone, and as I said in so many different ways. As we all lead busy lifestyles, going from A to B everyday we often forget to take time to relax, stretch and reflect. For example you get up in the morning, go to work, come home from work, cook dinner, and then go to bed. Those who also manage to get a workout into their daily routine will often skip their stretching time because they are simply “too busy”. This is where yoga comes in. Imagine how good it would feel to take some zen time to allow yourself to relax after getting home from work. Or imagine how good it would feel doing some yoga after getting your workout done to allow your muscles to recover better!

There is a long list of other reasons why yoga is so beneficial including those already mentioned above, so I’ll just name a few more:

  • Improves strength and flexibility

  • helps with back pain

  • Helps create a sense of calm and stress relief

  • Benefits heart health and helps you sleep better

These reasons are why I recommend all of my bootcamp and personal training clients get involved with our awesome sessions run by Nat from Nat Marie Yoga.

Nat often talks about why it’s so important for people who do regular exercise to try yoga too, she explains here some of the benefits specific poses can help you with after a workout.

Here’s an excerpt:

  • Child’s pose – stretches the spine, shoulders, ankles, hips, and neck

  • Warrior II – strengthens the shoulders, quads, and hamstrings

  • Crescent lunge – Strengthens the hamstrings, glutes, and quadriceps

One last point to leave you with on this topic. Yoga is not just for those who want a “lighter” workout. It requires strength and stamina in both the body and mind, a skill that we can all benefit from.
