Why group training can help you stay on track with your fitness goals

One of the number one pieces of feedback that comes through from my clients about why they keep coming back week after week is that they love “the community” and the environment that we offer, because they remain engaged and motivated to come and get their workout done!

There is a lot of talk around about the benefits of training in a group and why more and more people love this type of environment to get themselves moving. These benefits also help us understand why around 40% of people who exercise regularly attend group classes*. I can speak and advocate the benefits from my own personal experience too, because when I first started getting into fitness I didn’t want to have to turn up at the gym and workout alone. I wanted exercising to be fun, and I wanted to do it with likeminded people. This was the real key to my own individual success and how I’ve been able to maintain a sustainable routine all these years. I also knew the success to running my own business was focussing on group fitness and creating a community to help people achieve their goals!

So what are these so called benefits, and how can they help you stay on track?

  1. Social - as soon as you enter a group session you can instantly see regular participants interacting with each other. Often friendships are formed over time and it no longer just becomes a workout together. It becomes a meeting place for friends and maybe even coffee after class too! When you know you are going to meet friends you won’t let them down.

  2. Fun! - Group environments are always fun, there’s music, an fitness instructor and interaction. All of these help when you know you need a push to get the workout done.

  3. The hard work is done for you - You don’t need to think about what you’re going to do once you get there. By following an instructor led class all you have to do is show up and do the workout. The routine is taught to you therefore making it hassle free.

  4. Guidance - less chance of injury than working out alone. When you’re in a group environment or even one on one with a personal trainer for that matter you are looked after, and given cues to ensure you move safely and effectively.

  5. Variety - it’s definitely the spice of life! For example: I keep the variety interesting for my clients at Bootcamp, every session is always different to keep it interesting and fresh. It also allows the body to keep guessing so you keep progressing.

All of these reasons are why group fitness is one of the biggest growing fitness trends today!
